Ximena León Elmore, a graduate of the Faculty of Communication and Arts at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), has been awarded the MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Scholarship of Taiwan, which will allow her to continue her academic training in the country.
As part of this experience, Ximena will soon travel to Taipei, where she will spend one year studying Mandarin Chinese at the Mandarin Training Center (MTC) of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). She will then pursue a Master’s Degree in Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University (NCCU), an institution with which PUCP maintains cooperation and academic exchange agreements.
NCCU’s master’s program focuses on training professionals in international communication, new media, and innovative technologies—areas closely aligned with Ximena’s professional interests and her goal of exploring new forms of communication in contexts of technological transformation.
For Ximena, this experience represents an opportunity to broaden her professional perspective, gain new insights into communication and technology, and explore how they can contribute to building more inclusive societies. Her interest in pursuing her education in Asia stems from a desire to learn about different contexts and challenge her previous ideas about technology and the ways in which people connect with one another.

Ximena LeónBuilding on this background, she hopes to use her master’s studies to develop inclusive technology projects and services that can reach more people, particularly older adults, at a time when digital tools are becoming increasingly present in everyday life. In this sense, she also sees learning Mandarin as a new way to connect with people and cultures.
Throughout her language studies and master’s degree, Ximena will receive a monthly stipend to cover tuition, miscellaneous expenses, accommodation, study-related costs, transportation, and health insurance. The scholarship also covers round-trip airfare to Taiwan at the beginning and end of her studies.
Receiving this scholarship represents an important opportunity for our PUCP graduate to pursue international academic training, expand her knowledge in different academic and cultural contexts, strengthen her intercultural competencies, and develop essential adaptability skills for her professional future.
