Alejandra Valentina Mego and Sebastián Guillermo Bermúdez, students of International Relations and Computer Engineering, respectively, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), participated in the Fudan International Summer Session (FISS) 2026, held from July 13 to August 7 at Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

As part of the program, they not only took specialized courses but also had the opportunity to engage in cultural exchange experiences. Alejandra took the courses “The Belt and Road Initiative and its Impact in the Developing World” and “Chinese Media and Politics in the Context of Globalization,” where she explored the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the relationship between media, politics, and globalization. She also visited historical and cultural sites and attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), one of the leading artificial intelligence events held in Shanghai.

“Rather than bringing back definitive answers, Fudan allowed me to return with new questions,” Alejandra said. She also highlighted the opportunity to meet young people from different countries and begin learning Chinese. These experiences strengthened her interest in contributing, from Peru and Latin America, to a broader and more diverse understanding of the international system.

Sebastián, meanwhile, took “Foundations of Data Science” and “AI in Fintech,” courses that allowed him to connect theoretical concepts with applied projects. His time in China also gave him the opportunity to experience firsthand how digital tools are integrated into everyday life and to observe the role of technology in the development and functioning of cities.

“I was surprised to see how technological advancement coexists in synergy with human warmth: the kindness of the people, conversations with local students, and the openness of the professors,” he said. For him, this experience has inspired him to continue growing professionally and contribute to Peru’s development through his field of expertise.

Alejandra and Sebastián’s participation in the Fudan International Summer Session 2026 reflects the value of international mobility as an opportunity to broaden knowledge, strengthen intercultural dialogue, and expose our students to new academic and social realities. Experiences such as this allow them to complement their education, gain new perspectives, build connections with people from different parts of the world, and navigate new academic and cultural contexts.

At PUCP, we promote these opportunities as part of an international and comprehensive education, while strengthening ties with universities and institutions in different countries. In this way, we seek to enrich our university community’s academic, personal, and professional development through diverse internationalization experiences.
