On May 28, the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú’s Academic Office for Institutional Relations (DARI) welcomed a delegation from Beijing International Studies University (BISU), a Chinese university recognized for its specialization in international studies, foreign languages, global business, tourism, and international cooperation. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for academic cooperation between both institutions.
The BISU delegation was composed of Zheng Chengjun, Vice President of Beijing International Studies University; Li Wei, Dean of the Business School; Han Yijun, Deputy Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation; and Zhai Pengfei, faculty member at the School of European Studies.
On behalf of PUCP, the meeting was led by Alberto Ferrand, Head of DARI’s Institutional Relations Development Office. It also included the participation of Rubén Tang, Head of the Office of Relations with Asia; César Miranda, International Development Coordinator; Miguel Rodríguez Mondoñedo, Head of the Academic Department of Humanities; Levy del Águila Marchena, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Senior Leadership; Sol Sanguinetti, Director of International Master’s Programs at CENTRUM PUCP; Nadia Nilsson, representative of CENTRUM PUCP’s Internationalization Office; and Juan Paz, Assistant at the Office of Relations with Asia.
During the meeting, participants discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding and establishing specific agreements between both universities. They also explored opportunities for a student exchange and visiting faculty program in Hispanic Studies with BISU’s School of European Studies, as well as a double-degree student exchange program in Spanish and Financial Management with BISU’s School of International Business.
As a result of the meeting, both institutions agreed to begin discussions on the development of a memorandum of understanding and specific agreements, subject to internal consultation with the relevant authorities at each university. They also discussed the possibility of PUCP participating in BISU’s upcoming summer camps and other joint academic activities.
BISU currently has approximately 10,000 students and offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in areas related to foreign languages, international trade, management, international relations, and regional studies. The university also maintains partnerships and agreements with more than 200 universities and educational institutions around the world, and actively participates in student mobility, academic cooperation, and joint research programs.
Through this visit, PUCP seeks to strengthen its ties with this important Chinese university and generate new opportunities for academic collaboration and internationalization.
