From July 30 to August 2, the 2nd Congress of Latin American Sinologists 2025 was held in Santiago, Chile. The event, organized by the World Center of Sinology of the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), its Latin American Sinology Council, the University of Chile, Andrés Bello University, and the University of Santiago, brought together renowned scholars and professionals to discuss the construction of a “community of shared future between China and Latin America.”

Our university was represented by Patricia Castro, professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, who virtually presented the paper “Demons, Deities, Dragons, and Other Divinities: The Metamorphoses of Sinology and Nezha in the Technological Era.” Likewise, Rubén Tang, Head of the Asia Relations Office at the Academic Office of Institutional Relations (DARI), presented the paper “The Teaching of Mandarin Chinese in the Latin American Region: Post-Pandemic Challenges and Opportunities.” In addition, Ricardo Sumalavia, Director of the Center for Oriental Studies (CEO), participated in the roundtable “Policies of Engagement with China in Higher Education for Latin America: Challenges in Academic Training, Science, Technology, and Outreach.”

It is worth noting that next year PUCP will have the honor of hosting this congress, which aims to gather an even larger number of Latin American scholars and specialists whose research areas on China range from traditional language and culture to diverse dimensions such as economics, society, and science and technology. In this way, the congress seeks to foster dialogue, exchange, and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations with the purpose of contributing to the advancement of humanity.
