Lucciana Rengifo Granados, a Political Science and Government student at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), spent seven weeks in Shanghai as a scholarship recipient of Fudan University’s 2026 Summer Chinese Language and Culture Immersion Program, offered by one of China’s most prestigious universities.
The program is designed for international students interested in improving their Chinese language skills and gaining a deeper understanding of the country’s language and culture. During her stay, Lucciana not only attended Mandarin Chinese classes but also had the opportunity to practice the language in everyday situations and gain first-hand insight into different aspects of Chinese culture.
She also took part in a range of cultural and academic activities, including tai chi sessions, company visits, and opportunities to interact with students from different countries. These experiences complemented her classroom learning and allowed her to engage in an international and culturally diverse environment.
For Lucciana, the program was also an opportunity to gain a closer, personal and academic perspective on China. As a Political Science student, she believes that experiencing the country firsthand gave her a deeper understanding of a reality that is closely connected to her academic interests. Spending several weeks in a different environment, adapting to new dynamics, and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds also enriched her experience.
One of the things I value most is having been able to experience China from my own perspective and in a much more personal way, especially because, as a political scientist, it is a country I am interested in studying, understanding, and exploring in greater depth.
Lucciana Rengifo GranadosThe student also highlighted the support she received from PUCP through the scholarship that made her participation in the program possible. According to Lucciana, the experience contributed not only to her academic development but also to her personal growth.
Opportunities such as this allow students to broaden their knowledge in international settings, strengthen their intercultural competencies, and develop adaptability skills that are essential for their future careers. In this way, PUCP continues to promote experiences that contribute to the comprehensive education of its students and the development of global competencies.
