On August 3, the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) welcomed a delegation from the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), South Korea, a leading research institution in science and technology ranked among the world’s top universities in the QS World University Rankings.
The visit reflected DGIST’s interest in establishing academic ties with PUCP, widely recognized for its academic excellence and leadership among Peruvian universities. The meeting aimed to identify areas of mutual interest for future collaboration, while laying the groundwork for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and future agreements on student and faculty exchange.
The DGIST delegation was led by Dr. HoeJoon Kim, Associate Vice President for International Relations; Dr. Hyoshin Cho, Head of the International Affairs Team; and Mr. Jinuk Lee, Administrative Assistant. Representing PUCP were Dr. Francisco Rumiche, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering; Dr. Alberto Ferrand, Head of the Office for the Development of Institutional Relations; Mr. Rubén Tang, Head of the Office for Relations with Asia; Dr. Oscar Miranda, Academic Director of Economics; and Eng. Genghis Ríos, Head of the Digital Transformation Office at the Vice Rectorate for Administration.
The visit began with an introductory session in which both delegations presented their respective institutions. DGIST representatives then introduced potential areas for collaboration with PUCP in science, engineering, innovation, and technology. At the end of the meeting, the delegation toured the PUCP campus and visited several of the University’s laboratories.
As a result of the meeting, both institutions agreed to maintain close communication to advance negotiations toward the signing of cooperation agreements and to define a specific field in which to initiate academic and scientific collaboration.
Through initiatives such as this, PUCP reaffirms its commitment to promoting strategic partnerships with institutions that foster research, innovation, and academic exchange for the benefit of its university community.
